SCEVROLET COMPANY Mount Vernon, Iowa Needlecraft Club Had Final Lesson Details such as place of scam lines. grain of cloth. length of skirt, and position of armseye were dis— cussed last Thursday afternoon, Feb. 27, at the home project, meet- ing of the Needlecraft club, held at the home of Mrs. Margaret Leigh. Mrs. Lyall Bryant. local leader. told the members of the study group such things Were the secret of having your garment fit well. This was the concluding lesson in a series of four the past year. In addition to the clothing dis— cussion the Latin American music numbers we. have to recognize on Achievement Day, were reviewed on the victrola. Mrs. Essie Neal. music chairman, told the ladies that on March 26 at 4 o‘clork over VVMT the Linn county woman's chorus will broadcast. A short business meeting of the club was presided over by the vice-president. Mrs. Naomi Hamon. The next meeting will be in two weeks with Mrs. Irwin Coppock. Miss Gove Presents Last Project Lesson The final project lesson for the year. “Making Your Garment Fit You." was presented by Miss Lu- cille Gove, H.T).A. in Linn county Farm Bureau, before a group of project leaders from Franklin and Linn township on Tuesday of last week in the recreation rooms of the Iowa Electric Light Power com- pany's office in Mount Vernon. Buy— ing a certain size pattern or dress doesn‘t always solve the problem, because no two persons are built exactly alike, she said. Details such as scam lines, grain of cloth, length of skirt and position of armseye. were discussed. All these features tend to make garments fit. Miss Gove advised. This was the con— cluding lesson in the series of four which the women have studied dur- ing the year. Twenty-seven were present and a delicious picnic luncheon was en- joyed. The group made a donation of money to purchase cotton for a comforter for Bundles for Britain. MOUNT VERNON-SOCIAL Mrs. C. W. chf will be the hos- tess for the Past (‘hief’s luncheon on Friday. Mount Vernon Variety Store A Mt. Vernon Women Great Assistance to Bundles For Britain (Omitted Last Vv'eek) Ladies in charge of the bundles for Britain headquarters in Cedar Rapids, have, called to our atten- tion the fact that Mount Vernon people are assisting with their work in a very splendid way, and thereby hangs a tale. About two months ago Mrs. Al- vin Butler gave a luncheon for sev- eral of her friends. Instead of asking her guests to play bridge, her invitations were a cleverly worded rhyme, which suggested each guest bring material for a baby's nightgown. The night— gowns were. not all completed that day, so the group met again—and from this begininngu—a fine con- tribution has been made to a wor— thy causc. The group have no regu- lar time of meeting. but gather in small groups or work by themselves as is most convenient. Occasionally when there is a comfort. to tie or some special thing to do, they have a picnic luncheon and combine their efforts for work. Those of the group who have been busy since Mrs. Butler gave impetus to the work are her sis- ter, Mrs. Howard Johnston, who takes the articles to the Cedar Rapids headquarters. Mrs. Lynn loovdlove, Mrs. Walter Kohl, Mrs. Merle Kafcr, Mrs. Leonard Klein— eck. Misses Eloise Verba and Lida ilclle Goodyear. Friends who have heard of the, efforts of these, have made contributions of money and materials. One lady gave five dol— lars and there have been smaller amounts given. Any amount giv- on is used to purchase more mater» ials. Among those who have help- ed in special ways are: Mrs. Guy Johnston of Lisbon. Mrs. Harold Ehle, Mrs. Amy Goodlove. Mrs. T. 1. Mitchell, Mrs. Joseph Verba and Mrs. Emma I’lattcnbergcr. A, partial list of the things made and contributed follows: adult size comforters or quilts; 10 ‘baby size comforters or quilts; 2 baby laycttes of about fifty pieces each: a box of used clothing: adult dress- es; suits and sweaters, about 50 pieces. The Needlecraft club, north of Mount Vernon was responsible for one of the, comforters that was sent. Mrs. Roy Bowman is presi- dent of this club. While there is no organization in Mount Vernon in charge of the bundles for Britain, Mrs. Johnston is willing to attend to the transpor- tation of articles to the headquart- ers in Cedar Rapids. If there are others who wish to help with this worthy cause, by contribution of money, materials or clothing. please contact Mrs. John- ston or any of the group. High. School Pupils To Visit Des Moines The sociology class and the mem- bers of the, Mount Vernon high school mixed chorus will make a trip to Des Moines on Monday, March 17, to visit the sessions of the legislature. Tile mixed chorus will attend a concert given by the All Iowa high school chorus, in the Shrine auditorium. This concert is a part of the all Iowa. Music Fes- tival at the Division conference of the North Central Music Educa— tors.
