Lobbyists Are Taking Too

The legislatllt'e seems to I)e hav-

PLANTIN(; PIIOJI'XVU HEI{I"
Planting of flowering trees which
are beautiful when they Idoom in
the spring was suggested t)y a locul
F'esident and mentioned in this
colunln a year ago. Mount Vernon
already is known for its beautiful
and distinctive flower gardens.
The Garden elul) at Iowa Falls is
sponsoring a project to plant hopa
crab trees on roads leading into
Iowa Falls and urges property
owners to plant them in their own
yards, According to plans of the
clu,b, as mentioned in the Iowa
Falls Citizen, the trees will be
planted in clumps along ,the roa(ls
in order to give as natural an ap-
pearance as possible.
If each local property owner
would follow such a plan himsqf.
I)ut out one or a few trees silnihtl'
to tile hopa erah, which wouhl
bloom in the spring a,hou,t t, he time
of the May Festival, it wouht be a
very worth while project for the

The tax reducing legislature may
have a hard tinle explaining to the
folks back home about the $1.500,-
000 that may be voted from beer
tax eollee.tions to finance a state
office building. In our opinion this
money eouhl have. been spent to a
lot better advantage on surfacing
secondary roads. In other words it
could have been used ,to finance
farFn-to-Fnarket roads instead o1'
diverting as Fnuch of priFnary funds
as will be done.
The results oi' the atteFF/pted
purge of Senator Gillette htst year
will lie better known when the
appointnFont of I:. S. district at-
torney 1"o]' the northern district of
Iowa is made. I,M. l)unn, present
federal district attorney, bi,tterly
