Organize High
School Golf Team
Ralph G. Carl. M.V.H.S. principal
has announced the organization of
high school golf team.
Mr. Carl says that the purpose in
organizing such a team is to teach
the boys a game which they can
play for thc r~st of their lives. ()th-
er sports prove too strenuous for
use after high school and college,
but golf is a game which the boys
will ,be able to play a long time l
after high school.
The team is composed of boys
from the Junior High, 9th and 10th
grades. Several matches have al-
ready been scheduled.
The team will play Marion HigL
there, May 1st. and here .May 13th.
Two matches will be played with
Anamosa high school team. Nexl
fall more matches will be schedul-
ed. It is expected the team will
play about six matches this season.

Monti Wins Tri Meet

made in the mile ruu; 100 yd. dash;

mile relay; Dole vault; discus; and l
shot put. Two local boys figuring
in the establishment of new re-
cords were Myron Col)pock who ran
a :57.8, breaking the old record of
:58 flat, Earl Edwards, who tied
Clements of Monti in the pole vault
with a new record of 8 ft. 10 in
breaking the old mark of 8 ft. I in.
All members of the local squad
are composed of freshmen and
sophomores, with the exception of
Don .Merrltt, a senior, and Harlan
Barrett, a junior.
Miss Ann Curnutt returned homo
today from St. Lukes hospital,
Cedar Rapids where she was con-
fined two weeks following an op-
eration. She is tntprovlng satisfac-
torily.

These districts are recognized 'by
the U. S. Soil Conservation Service

they can work with individual
farn~ers. Activities of the district
are handled by a committee of three
farmer~ elected by the district land-
own(rs, ['he district may enter in-
to agreements with the Soil Conser-
vation Sorvice and other federal
and state agencies for assistance,
and may do practically anything
decided by the farmers for the pro-
motion of soil conservation and
better land use. The district may
not levy taxes, issue bonds or en-
force any regulations.
Soil conservation work started
in the Indian Creek area and work
done by lhe Marion CCC camp will
expire this summer. If a district is
established it is anticipated that
the Soil Conservation Service will
assign one or more men to assist
the district in a soil program.
