patrick spent Monday in Cedar
Falls where they visited the lat-
ter's sisters, Misses Ruth and

Cecil Sherk of Lake Park. Miss
Ruth Sherk, who suffered apelvic
fracture in January and is in the
Lutheran Home Infirmary, isnow
able to walk. Ea route home, the

PITCHER: Larch Pike, fresh-
man at Wartburg College, is a
pitcher on the college baseball
team this season. The team has
a 25-game schedule. Pike is the
son of Mr. and Mrs. Merrill Pike
of Lisbon.
Auxiliary M embers
Attend Conferences
Members of the Lisbon Amer-
ican Legion and Auxiliary who
attended the spring district con-
ference last Saturday in Cedar
RaPids were Mr. and Mrs. Clair
Whitman, Mrs. James Burnett
and Mrs. Mearl Reynolds. Mr.
Whitman is vice commander of
the district.
Last Wednesday the Linn
County conference of the Auxil-
iary was held in the Methodist
Church in Springville. Mrs.
Reynolds is the county president.
Other officers are Mrs. Harvey
Fascher, Coggon, vice-presi-
dent; Mrs. BurneR, secretary;
and Mrs. Ruth Chrystal, Walker,
historian. Others attending from
Lisbon were Mines. Glen Bailey,
Leo Hubler, Bruce Alger, Harlan
Hriggs, Heston Phelps, Jim
Smith, Lloyd Longerbeam, C.Y.
Spangler, Lawrence Yeisley and
Mary Kotlinek.
Bands to Appear
at Two Schools
Lisbon high school concert
band and stage band will present
concerts at Delwood school at
Elmwood on Tuesday at 11 a.m.
and Lost Nation High School at
1 p.m. The group will have lunch
at the Delwood school.
The concert band's selections
will be the numbers it will pre-
sent at the large group state
contest at Springville on May 6.
They are: "Symphony No. 3,"
by Malher, and "Spit Fire Tong-
ue, Fugue," byWalton. The stage
band will perform for 20 minutes
during the concert.
Jeff Sinley directs the bands.

Pam Horton Married
Saturday in Colorado
Mr. and Mrs. M.E. McCann
returned Sunday from Loveland,
Colo where they attended the
wedding of their daughter, Pare
Horton of Loveland, to John Gray
of Long Island, N.Y. Thewedding
took place last Saturday at the
Sunrise Ranch in Loveland. The
couple will be at home this week
at 3708West College St Phoenix,
Ariz. 85019.
Missionary Guild Has
D au g hter B anqu et
More than 100 attended the
mother-daughter banquet on
Tuesday night last week at the
Lisbon Federated Church. Spon-
sored by the Missionary Guild,
the banquet was served by the
boys of the church while the
men worked in the kitchen. The
theme, "On Wings of Faith" was
featured in decorations and the
program.
Mrs. Darwin Schlenker, Grin-
nell, was guest speaker. Shehas
served as a missionary in Peru,
a member of Wycliffe Transla-
tors.
Past Matrons Meet
Saturday in Lisbon
Lisbon past matrons will host
the Anna W. Abbey past matrons
assembly of Linn County at a
12:30 p.m. luncheon in the United
Methodist Church dining room
Saturd0y. A program by the
Lisbon Youth Folk Singers will
be given, along with the initiation
of new matrons in the Lisbon
Masonic Temple immediately
follm4ing the luncheon.
Presiding over the assembly
will be Mrs. Willard Light, pre-
sident of Lisbon Past Matrons,
Mrs. Sam Dunn, vice-president,
and Miss Mart:ha Nosley, secre-
tary. Reservations are to be
sent to Miss Nosley.

New Rural Carrier
Starts Saturday
John Mullan, Mechanicsville
rural mail carrier, will begin
delivering mail on the Lisbon
rural route on Saturday. He
succeeds William R. Gorkow,
who as substitute carrier has
delivered the mail for the pastl4
months. He will continue to be a
substitute carrier of record. The
route Mullan has served at Me-
chanicsville will be combined
with a Stanwood route.
WED IN CEDAR RAPIDS
Miss Sue Robinson, and John
Northrup were married April 4
in the People's Unitarian Church
in Cedar RaPids. Their parents
are Mrs. Shirley Robinson, Lis-
ben, Clarence Robinson, And-
over, Ohio, and Mr. and Mrs.
Oliver Northrup, Ely. The bride-
groom is a student at Kirkwood
Community College. The couple
are living in Cedar RaPids.

Gourd during the weekend were
Mr. Gourd's mother, Mrs. Cath-
erine Gourd of Des Moines, who
arrived last Wednesday; Perry
Satterfield, Logansport, Ind
brother of the younger Mrs.
Gourd; Misses Sherry and Shelly
Satterfield, Cedar Rapids. Addi-
tional guests on Saturday were
Mrs. Danny Curley and Joel,
Clarence, and MrS. Ran Stutzel
and Sheila, Lisbon.
Harry Drach returned to Lis-
bon last Wednesday after spend-
ing the winter with his brother
and sister-in-law, Mr. and Mrs.
Paul Drach, at Salome, Ariz.
Mr. and Mrs. Paul Drach have
sold their restaurant, service
station and motel at Salome and
bought two houses at Yarnell,
Ariz 65 miles northwest of
Salome. They are living in one
of the houses while Mr. Drach
remodels the other.
Mrs. Hazel Cram of Salem,
Ore and Dr. and Mrs. Sheldon
Cram of LeMars are expected
Saturday for a visit with Mrs.
Cram's sister, Mrs. Lyle Grif-
fifths. Dr. and Mrs. Sheldon
Cram will return to LeMars on
Monday while Mrs. Hazel Cram
will remain for a more extended
visit.

NEW PHONE MANAGER
FOR EASTERN IOWA
Ruben L. Wienke has been
named eastern manager for the
United Telephone Co. of Iowa,
which serves Lisbon. He will
have charge of all phases of the
company's operation effective
May 1, including long distance
connections provided through the
company's Tipton long distance
center. His office will be at
Le-Claire-Princeton.
Most recently he has been
switching installation and main-
tenance supervisor at Newton.
He joined the company at Albia
in 1963.
POSTPONE LISBON
ATHLETIC EVENTS
Two athletic events were re-
scheduled last week because of
the inclementweather. The base-
ball game with Calamus will be
played at Lisbon on Monday, May
8, and the girls invitationaltrack
meet at Norway was changed to
Wednesday of this week.
Lisbon baseball team will play
Washington High School, Cedar
RaPids, at Washington next Tues-
day, May 2, at 4 p.m. in the sec-
tional tournament. The game
was originally scheduled for
Wednesday.

Mr. and Mrs. Alfred Wilson
visited Sunday with Mr. and Mrs.
Steven Puffer and Craig at Bet-
tendorf. Mr. Wilson returned
home last week from St. Luke's
Hospital, where he had been for
observation and treatment.

were Thursday dinner guests of
Mr. and Mrs. ErnestHotz. After-

FORMER LISBON RESIDENT
DIES IN FLORIDA
Mrs. Kenneth Kirkpatrick was
notified of the death of her sister,
Mrs. George Lee, Lake Coma,
Fla. Mrs. Lee, 74, died April 21
after a long illness. Burial was
in Florida. She was a 1923 grad-
uate of Cornell College.
Survivors, in addition to her
husband, are two brothers, John
Sherk, Ida Grove, and Cecil
Sherk, Lake Park; and four sis-
ters, Misses Ruth and Hope
Sherk, Cedar Falls, Olive Shark,
Coppersville, Wash and Mrs.
Kirkpatrick. The Sherk family
lived in Lisbon a number of
years ago.
COMMITTAL RITES HERE
A crematorial committall for
Donald Kettering, 71, will beheld
at the Lisbon cemeterythisweek.
Mr. Kettering, a brother of Miss
Mary Kettering of Lisbon, died of
a heart attack at his home in
Yacalpa, Calif April 8. He
was born in Lisbon on Sept. 1,
1900 and had lived in California
since 1930.

Mr. and Mrs. Darrell Morn-

Albright of Manana at St. Luke's
Hospital. Mr. Albright is under
treatment for double pneumonia.
He is a former Lisbon resident.

Northern Iowa in Cedar Falls
where they visited Bill Cox and
attended the mfisical, "Your a

Mr. and Mrs. Russell Frost of
Ft. Madison visited over the
weekend with Mr. and Mrs. Step-
hen Cox. They visited Mr.
Frost's brother, Dorsey Frost,
at the Hallmark Nursing Home
in Nit. Vernon. He is the father
of Mrs. Stephen Cox.
Mr. and Mrs. Harlan Jones,
Steve, Vicky, Kathy and Karen
attended the funeral services on
Friday for Mr. Jones' father,
Maurice Jones of Mechanics-
ville. Steve Jones returned Sun-
day to Iowa State University at
Ames.

tended the convention of the Iowa
chapter of the National Associa-
tion of Postmasters at Cedar
RaPids this week.

Seminar Team Sunday
The youth of the Methodist,
Presbyterian and Catholic chur-
ches are sponsoring a retreat
Sunday, beginning at 3 p.m and
lasting into the evening, with the
Youth and World Crisis Seminar
team which is to arrive in Mt.
Vernon Wednesday. Thepurpose
of this retreat, to be held at the
Catholic Church, is to give the
young people of this community
an opportunity to meet and speak
with members of the team.
Everyone of high school age is
