LOCAL TEACHERS
' SIGN CONTRACTS
FOR NEXT YEAR
Jean L-o-Hich Has
Accepted Another
Position
All the Mount Vernon teachers
in the public schools this year with
the excel)tion of Miss Jean l~ollich
have accepted and returned their
contracts to the Mount Vernon
school Jboard with their signatures.
Miss Golliclh accepted a position
several weeks ago in the primary
grades ill Lyons. Several applica-
tions for the position of fifth grade
teacher have ~been received, and the
applications will .probably come be-
fore the school board at a meeting
next week.
July 15 is the deadline for the
release of a teacher who has sign-
ed a contract with the 'Mount Vet--
non School Board. After that date
a high school teacher :must pay
$50.00 and a grade teacher $35.00
to ;be released from a contract.
Such a clause is used iu many
school contracts because late re-
signations often require extra tiine
of the school ~board and extra ex-
pense if the position is satisfactor-
ily filled.
Install Linotype Machine
At Hawkeye Office Today
Tile Hawkeye-Record office is
installing a Model 8 Blue Streak
IAnotype machine today to replace
an Intertype machine Which has
ibeen used for 23 years. The old
machine was the ~best typesetting
machine between Cedar Rapids and
Clinton when it was installed ,but
loss of tbne in keeping it in ad-
justment and the cost of parts
,made it expensive to o,perate in
these modern times.
The new machine h'ts all of the
latest developments for machines
of its type. It .will carry three
magazines each with different type
faces, with a fourth type face avail-
able in an extra magazine. The
metal pot, which melts the metal
from which the lines of type are
,made, will :be ele~?trically con-
trolled to maintain the metal at
a constant tem;perature of frmn
540 to 560 degrees. Most of the
type set on this machine will be
used in the Hawkeye jo*b printing
department.
