suffering from malarial fever, but her

upstairs over Bair and Kyle’s clothing

Wednesdgy morning for Omaha and
Kearney ebr. They will take in the
Trans-Mississippi exposition at the
former place and visit their son, J. E.

tea Friday in honor of Miss Clara Wal-
lace of Mt. Vernon. and Miss Fouse
and Messrs. Fouse and Kurtz of Lisbon.

-—Rev. Joseph Wardle of Evanston,
came out Saturday evenin for a few
days’ rest and visit at the smile home,
having spent several days recently
working at the camp meetings at Lena,
Franklin Grove and Des Plaines lll.
~Mrs. D. E. Long of Mason City is a
new resident of Mt. Vernon who arriv-
ed this week. She will occupy the J.
C. Keedick residence lately occupied
by Prof. Nicholson, which has
been newly painted and put in nice re-
pair.
—E. L. Keith has rented a home in
Marion tube occupied by his mother
and the children. He expects to con-
tluue living in this city himself, how—
ever.
~Misses Mamie Moore and Miss
Raff, professional nurl’es at the hospital
in Iowa City visited here Wednesday
at the home of Mr. and Mrs. W. M
Moore.
~Miss Minnie Kopf left for Evans-
ton Ills., Monday night, where she will
make her home with the family of Dr.
James and attend North-western Uni-
versity.
~Fred C. Hannshs now has a posi-
tion in a large fruit and confectionery
house 'in Boulder 0010., where he is
pleasantly located and apparently is
in improving health.
—Miss Della Goding has gone to
Montana in response to summons from
her sister, Miss Clara, who went there
a few weeks since. The ladies will
both engage in teaching.
~Messrs. Barrett & Stevenson have
moved their grocery store into the
room two doors east of the corner, just
vacated by Mrs. Moses, where they will
have additional and needed space.
-—Prof. W. G. Ebersole left Monday
forashort vacation trip prior to the
beginning of the year’s work at Cor-
nell. He travels across country on his
bicycle and will visit at Toledo and
other Iowa points.
——Mr. Bette was in ZCedar Rapids
yesterday to arrange with the firm who
are to put in the baths for the Y. M. C.
A. The contract calls for 3 shower and
1 tub bath. The bath privileges for the
year will only be $3.00.

—Rev. Dr. and Mrs. Luke Hitchcock
of Chicago are guests of Mr. and Mrs.
S. H. Bauman. The venerable Doctor
is one of the grandest men in Method-
ism. He is now in his eighty-sixth
year and is still strong and vigorous.
—-The 3rd. Division of the Ladies’
Exchange will have for sale at Meyers’
Drug Store, Saturday Sept. 3rd., Bread,
Rolls, Doughnuts, Cake, Chicken, Ap-
file, Lemon and Cocoanut Pies, Baked
cans, Cottage Cheese. Potato Salad.
~Mrs. Kern reports that her hus—
band Frank,t e R. R. Agent at Fol-
som, 1a., is very sick with typhoid fever,
which has continued for two weeks.
Mrs. Kemp is postmistress at Folsom
and has the sympathy of Mt. Vernon
friends in this trying hour.

ful experiences fishing and recuperat-

Doctor’s return to his pulpit was en-
joyed by a large congregation as they
listened to his excellent sermon on
Enoch, in which he showed his old time
vigor and enthusiasm.
