The president oi Argentlna hae of-

and organize a department of agrieuN

many years ago Argentina paid Itoraee

progressive ideas.
Speaking of questions of diet, the
Christian World says: "If a man finds
that he can think better, pray better

harmless, but the crank with a mission
is a nuisance.

There is one locality in the world
which has Ihus far resisted the inva-
sion of the bicycle, and that is Aden, on
the Red sea. The United States consul
there, in reply to the inquiry relative
to the bicycle industry in that far off
quarter, reports that owing to the
rough streets and hills and the heat, to
which no one can expose :himself on
the wheel without danger, as well as
to the fact that the natives are too
poor to buy wheels even if theywanted
them. there is no prospect "of a de-
mand in this market for bicycles of
any description or make,"
In one respect Gen. JoeWheeler'a ex-
perience will be like Washtngton's. He
will be elected to congres~ by a unani-
mous vote. All parties--republicans,
populists and democrats--have united
on him Congressmen are Occasionally
etected without any opposition. Thin
~.appens in districts in which one party
is so much stronger than the other
that opposition wonld be useless. All
parties participated in nominating Gen.
~ heeter and all will vote for him, Such
a trihute as this is seldom paid tO any
publin man in this or any other'country.
It is as deser~'ed as it israre.

patches from the mountain towns in-
dicate a similar fortunate change. At
present nothing like a correct esti-
mate of the damage done can be given
and it will be days before an accurate
statement of the losses by the fires
that have been raging for a week or
more can be made.
