foliageall on the trees presented a sight
only to be seen in a life time. Plum,
apple and peach trees in full verdure
and oak, elm and maple triged with
yellow- and branches broken off strewed
the ground. We sincerely hope for a
spell of warm weather, the corn being
all in the field and badly lodged would
be a bad state of affairs if snow would
last all winter.
It is really amusing to see how peo-
ple will stick to the free silver policy
and the 16 to 1 when such prominent
Democrats as Mr. Rank, of. Iowa City,
get disgusted and come over to the
sound money party. And then ,again,
to hear the sound argument of-Mr.
Lane at West Liberty and yet not
understand how they are standing in
their own light,
We were sorry indeed to hear of the
hard times in Mt. Vernon of which
Mr. Keith writes, only $50,000 building
in 1898.
